::: Listen first: Get what you want when you want it :::

A
company offers you your dream job, but the benefits don't fit your
lifestyle. You would like a sports car and a week or two more holiday
entitlement and they offer you a good life assurance and a family
car.
Many US companies - and a few in Britain - have introduced new systems of flexible benefits, so employees can choose benefits which do fit in with their lifestyle. Even better, you also have an option to change those benefits as your needs and lifestyle change. A kind of mix'n match. Employees get certain core benefits and a certain number of points to buy extra benefits they want. Two people working for a computer giant explain how it works. |
My name is Bernhard Fletcher, I'm 29 and I have been with the company for two years. We all get core benefits like health insurance, life insurance and paid holidays, but under this scheme we can choose others. I don't have children and I don't need a car, so I chose ten days more holiday and an increased life assurance and pension. |

My name is Jane Westman. I'm 35 and I have a 2 year old son. My main priority is to have as much time as possible with my son, so I chose 39 days holiday instead of the standard 20 last year. This year I have reduced that to 15 extra days and also get childcare vouchers to help me pay a childminder. |
Employess may also choose to exchange their benefit points for cash. Flexible benefits are a cutting-edge idea, and more and more companies have started to try them out. So what is in it for the employers? Increased job satisfaction, increased motivation and increased loyalty to the company. |

::: Time to write :::
Here you can jot down your thoughts and ideas. Answer the questions - one or all of them. This does not have to be perfect or comprehensive. Writing down some lines helps a lot to practice and improve your English. Select one question, and start! I will have a look at what you've written, and we will see what can be improved. You know: Practice makes perfect!
Write it down!Think about the following questions and write down what you think.
' Money is the best incentive (Anreiz) for employees' - right or wrong? Why? What motivates you ? Is it good to praise (loben) staff a lot? Why? Why not? Try to write minimum 4 or 5 sentences per question. |
