Hi Chantal - here it is : your personal and very special corner for learning English
Past Simple is for:
saying that something happened in the past. Oft gibt es dazu auch eine konkrete Zeitangabe wie: yesterday last year this morning (wenn der schon rum ist) yesterday at 4 o'clock when I was young etc |
Past Progressive is for:
talking about something that happened in the past and took longer. Wieso? Wenn ich dir erzähle, "I was trying to sleep..." und da aufhöre, schläfst du die halbe Nacht nicht weil du überlegst, was dann geschah ;-) I was trying to sleep when the fireworks started ist dagegen eine komplete Story, right? Manchmal stehen Past Progressive Sätze "scheinbar" allein.
It was a hot day. People were laughing and jumping into their pools and having a good time. |
